How GymRank works
GymRank turns your training into a sport of its own: every verified workout counts, every challenge has a fair referee, and every rank is earned. This guide walks you through your first ten minutes — then the parts that keep you coming back. In a hurry? The six steps below are all you need to start competing.
Get started in 6 steps
- 1
Create your free account
Sign up with Google in one tap or with an email and password. No payment, no trial, no credit card — GymRank is free to join. If a friend invited you, paste their referral code during sign-up so you both get a head start.
- 2
Build your athlete profile
Onboarding walks you through picking a username, adding your country and city, and choosing the sports you train. You are instantly assigned your permanent GymRank ID (like GR-10247) — your unique athlete number across the whole platform, used to find you and settle your head-to-heads.
- 3
Track your first workout
Log a session manually in seconds — sport, duration, distance — or connect a device (Garmin, Fitbit, WHOOP, Oura, Strava, Polar, Suunto, Health Connect) from Settings → Integrations. Device-synced activity carries the highest trust. Nothing is faked: if a device isn't configured yet, GymRank tells you honestly instead of pretending.
- 4
Get verified
Every activity is checked by the anti-cheat engine — realistic paces, GPS consistency, duplicate detection and more. Clean sessions earn a Verified badge, which is what makes rankings and head-to-heads fair. Suspicious entries are flagged for review rather than silently trusted.
- 5
Earn XP, badges and levels
Verified training earns XP (with sensible daily caps so quality beats volume), levels up your profile, and unlocks badges — from your First Competition to 30-Day Streaks, each with a rarity from Common to Elite. Your consistency also keeps your streak alive, which feeds streak-milestone loot chests.
- 6
Compete — and climb
Join a public challenge for instant competition, or send a rival a 7-day 1-vs-1 on distance, workouts, time or streak. Every verified result moves your sport-specific rating, your global/country/city rank, and your standing in the current 90-day season. Win, and the XP is yours; lose, and the rematch button is right there.

Everything on the platform follows one simple cycle. Learn it once and every screen in the app will make sense.

Key concepts, explained
GymRank keeps four things deliberately separate so nobody games the system: XP measures effort, ratings measure competitive results, reputation measures honesty, and seasons give it all a clean beginning and end.
XP & levels
XP is the experience currency of GymRank: earned from verified workouts, quests, challenges and competition results. Daily caps keep it about consistency, not one giant week. Levels gate cosmetic unlocks — never your honesty.
Sport ratings & rank
Each sport has its own rating that moves when you compete, and your overall score blends your best sports. Leaderboards come in scopes (global, country, city) and periods (weekly, monthly, all-time), so there is always a board where you can climb.
Your GymRank ID
A permanent, non-editable athlete number (GR-10247 format) assigned the moment you join. It identifies you in challenges, competitions and disputes — even if you change your username later.
Verification & trust
Activities are marked Verified, Partially verified or Manual depending on their source and plausibility. Everything is visible to you, so you always know why a session counted the way it did.
Reputation
A 0–100 score you can only grow by training honestly and competing cleanly — it cannot be bought. Verified device data, consistent history and good competition conduct move you from New toward Trusted and Elite.
Seasons
Competition runs in 90-day seasons. At the end, standings are locked forever into the archive, champions get permanent honours, and a fresh season starts with everyone's rank carried forward but the race reset.
The fun layer
Beyond the serious competition sits a set of light, optional games designed to keep you showing up. None of them can be bought, and none of them touch your verified results — they are pure motivation.
Daily quests
Small surprise challenges every day — like 20 push-ups before noon — that pay bonus XP when completed. A reason to show up even on rest days.
Boss battles
The whole community teams up against a legendary monthly goal (like running 100 km together). Your verified sessions feed the shared progress bar.
Mystery challenges
Chaos mode: accept a challenge before you know exactly what it is. If you like gambling with glory, this one's for you — you'll see the terms the moment it's accepted.
Grudge matches
Lost a 1-vs-1? A revenge rematch button appears for 7 days and your rival knows it's personal — the match is flagged as a grudge match for everyone to see.
Underdog bonus
Challenge someone ranked far above you and win, and the XP multiplier goes up to double. Giant-slaying pays.
Loot chests & pets
Streak milestones open mystery chests (cosmetic rewards, honest published odds) and your pet mascot evolves the more consistently you train.
Predictions
Watch a public 1-vs-1 and bet in-app points — never real money — on who wins. Correct predictions share the pot.
Spotlight
An Athlete of the Week is highlighted with a shareable card — and it isn't always the same names at the top; standout efforts get picked too.
You stay in control
A competition platform only works if athletes trust it. Control and honesty features are built into the core, not bolted on.
Privacy on your terms
Five separate toggles control who sees your country, city, activities, competitions and social graph. Public athlete pages respect every one of them.
Block anyone
Blocking removes both directions of following instantly and keeps that person out of your competitions and searches. No justification needed.
Dispute a result
Something looked wrong in a head-to-head? Every competition has a dispute channel with clear reasons, reviewed by admins with the power to correct records symmetrically.
Own your data
Export everything GymRank holds about you as a downloadable file any time — or delete your account permanently with a password-confirmed flow.
Frequently asked questions
Is GymRank free to use?
Yes. Creating an account, tracking workouts, joining challenges, competing 1-vs-1 and climbing leaderboards are all free. The platform may later offer sponsor-backed prizes, but competing never requires payment.
Do I need a smartwatch or fitness tracker?
No. You can log every workout manually and it counts with standard weighting. Connecting a device (Garmin, Fitbit, WHOOP, Oura, Strava, Polar, Suunto, Health Connect) gives your sessions the highest verification trust, which is an advantage in close matches but never a requirement.
How does GymRank stop cheating?
Every activity passes through an anti-cheat engine that checks for impossible speeds, duplicated sessions, inflated logs and other suspicious patterns. Flagged entries go to human review instead of being trusted, rejected activities can cost reputation, and competition results can be disputed and corrected.
How do I earn XP and level up?
Verified workouts, completed daily quests, challenge finishes and 1-vs-1 results all grant XP. There are sensible daily caps, so steady consistency beats occasional binges. XP raises your level and unlocks cosmetic rewards — it is separate from your sport ratings.
Is there real money or gambling involved?
No. The prediction game uses in-app points only, loot chests contain cosmetic rewards with published odds, and any future rewards come from real sponsors as prizes. You can never deposit, wager or withdraw money on GymRank.
What is a season and what happens when it ends?
A season is a 90-day competition window. When it ends, the final standings are locked into a permanent archive, champions and undefeated athletes receive permanent achievements, and a new season begins so the race starts fresh while your ratings carry over.
Can I control who sees my information?
Yes. Privacy settings let you independently hide your country, city, activities, competitions and social connections. You can block any user, and you can export or permanently delete all of your data whenever you want.
