🏃 Running Challenges & Rankings
Running is the most accessible competitive sport in the world — all you need is a pair of shoes and a road. On GymRank, every verified run becomes ranking points: log runs manually or sync them from your watch, join distance challenges, and race opponents head-to-head.
Whether you run 2 km or 20 km a day, you compete inside your own sport-specific ladder. A 5 km specialist and a marathon builder are never compared by raw distance alone — your rating reflects consistency, volume and progression in the sport you actually train.
How Running Challenges Work
Running challenges on GymRank are goal-based competitions with a fixed window — for example “Run 50 km this week” or “10 workouts in 30 days”. You join, your verified runs count automatically, and the live leaderboard shows exactly where you stand against everyone else in the challenge.
Only verified activity counts toward a challenge. Runs synced from providers like Strava or Garmin carry the highest trust; manual entries count too, but with lower trust weighting so the competition stays honest for everyone.
How Running Rankings Work
The running leaderboard has its own rating scale, completely separate from other sports. You can rank globally, within your country or city, among friends, or inside your team — and switch between today, this week, this month, the current season and all time.
Your running rating rises with verified volume and strong performances, with diminishing returns for very high single-day volumes. That means steady training beats one heroic week: the ladder rewards runners who show up all season.
How Points and XP Work
Every verified run earns XP based on distance and duration, within daily caps that keep the competition fair. Streaks of consecutive running days earn bonus XP, and personal records — fastest 5 km, longest run — create one-time bonus moments.
XP levels up your athlete profile, while your sport rating tracks how strong you are within running specifically. Both are visible on your profile, so a friend can see at a glance that you are, say, a Level 12 runner ranked inside your city's top 200.

How to Compete
Create your free profile, pick running as one of your sports, and log or sync your first run. From there you have three ways to compete: join a public running challenge, send a direct 1-vs-1 challenge to another runner for the week, or simply climb the running leaderboard by training consistently.
Head-to-head competitions run over 7 days: whoever accumulates the most verified distance wins and takes the XP. It is the simplest way to make an ordinary training week matter.
How to Improve Your Rank
Climbing the running ladder is mostly about consistency and gradual progression. Add one easy run per week before adding intensity, keep most runs at a conversational pace, and let one faster session per week sharpen your speed.
On the platform side: keep your streak alive (streak bonuses add up), join challenges slightly above your comfort zone, and connect your watch so every run is verified at maximum trust. Small weekly gains compound into visible ranking movement over a season.
